EwingCole Named Winner of the 5th Annual Healthcare Interior Design Competition

 

 

 

 

 

 

EwingCole, one of the nation’s leading architecture, engineering, and interior design firms, is pleased to announce that it has been named a winner of the International Interior Design Association’s 5th annual IIDA Healthcare Interior Design Competition. This competition honors and celebrates outstanding originality and excellence in the design and furnishings of healthcare interior spaces. EwingCole was recognized in the category of Community/Academic/Teaching Hospitals, for Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

“The winners of this year’s IIDA Healthcare Interior Design Competition created exceptionally designed environments that are positively impacting the well-being of the patients treated in these facilities as well as their families and those who work there. With more research showing the link between design and positive patient outcomes, these designers are making a tremendous impact on the healthcare industry,” said IIDA Executive Vice President and CEO Cheryl S. Durst, Hon. FIIDA, LEED AP.

The jury panel reviewing this year’s competition included Michelle Clark, IIDA, RID, LEED AP (Senior Associate, Rees Associates Inc.); Suzen L. Heeley (Executive Director, Design + Construction, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center); and Lisa Herriott, IIDA, LEED AP ID+C (Interior Designer, Project Manager, UW Medicine | Harborview Medical Center).

The Illuminating Engineering Society creates the premier lighting community dedicated to promoting the art and science of quality lighting to its members, allied professional organizations, and the public. Its more than 8,000 members are manufacturers, lighting designers, architects, contractors, educators, and those working in affiliated fields, all dedicated to improving the lighted environment.

Andy Jarvis, EwingCole’s Healthcare practice leader, discusses the evolution of lean design along with Saul Jabbawy and Mary Frazier.

Today’s freestanding ambulatory care facilities range from storefront clinics to specialty care centers. “Health systems are building more sophisticated buildings offsite. They’re not just doctors’ offices,” says Andy Jarvis, AIA, LEED AP, principal and health care design practice leader at EwingCole, Philadelphia. “The idea, of course, strategically, is to take more and more complex care away from the acute care hospital.” This allows the hospital to focus on the most advanced cases.

EwingCole Wins First Place Interior Design Award

EwingCole received a 2016 First Place Interior Design Award in the healthcare category, given by the American Society of Interior Design, Pennsylvania East Chapter for its design of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Specialty Care and Ambulatory Surgery Center located in King of Prussia, Pa. This prestigious competition recognizes excellence in commercial and residential interior design.

Designed to create an environment that children and teenagers can find to be fresh and interesting, the 135,000 square foot Center demonstrates CHOP’s leadership in providing high quality, convenient care closer to patients’ homes. The light and colors, visually and emotionally stimulating and accessible to all ages and cultures, create an uplifting environment supportive of the healing process.

The award was presented in Philadelphia on April 8 at the Interior Design Awards gala at Union Trust.  Saul Jabbawy and Colleen Harrington, EwingCole’s director of design and director of healthcare interior design respectively, were on hand to receive the award.

EwingCole Project Nominated for Architizer 2016 A+ Awards

The EwingCole designed CHOP Ambulatory Care Center has been selected as a Finalist in the Architizer A+ Awards, an annual competition celebrating the year’s best architecture and products, for the Plus Categories | Concepts: Architecture +Branding category. As a Finalist, our work is amongst a handful in the world for that category, and is competing for the two most sought-after awards: The Architizer A+ Jury Award and the Architizer A+ Popular Choice Award. Each category of the Architizer A+ Awards is open to public voting to determine the People’s Choice Award. Public voting closes on April 1 and winners will be announced April 12.
