Angela Matchica presented at the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC) 2017 National Conference in Chicago on May 28th and 29th. The title of the session was Reading Drawings: Skills for Preservation Professionals Involved in Building Projects. This 2-day workshop brought together architects and engineers experienced in working with conservators to teach skills involved with understanding architectural, mechanical, electrical, and exhibition design drawings. Without formalized training in reading drawings, conservators and allied collection professionals may be missing crucial details that will affect their work and preservation of their collections. This course enabled the preservation professional to be better advocates for the collections and the staff that work with them in producing sustainable and effective preservation spaces. It improved preservation professionals’ abilities as project team members, providing benefits for institution and collection preservation alike.
