CRG and Clayco to Develop, Design and Build Pfizer R&D and Process Development Facility

CRG is providing turnkey build-to-suit services to complete the new BioPlace for Pfizer in Chesterfield, Missouri. CRG is collaborating with Clayco, the design-builder on the project, for this world-class office and laboratory space.  As one of the world’s premier innovative biopharmaceutical companies, Pfizer has entrusted CRG and Clayco to deliver a facility that reflects its highest standards for excellence, quality, safety and value.

The dual-purpose structure will be comprised of 285,000 square feet of laboratory and office space. The design partnership of Forum Studio and Ewing Cole merged the expertise and talents of both firms where the unique combination of both research and development labs combined with office and meeting spaces creates one of the most progressive facilities in the pharma industry. The architecture, landscape design, engineering, interior and lab/process was also designed by Forum and EwingCole.

The new campus will be owned by Pfizer and will bring together more than 450 employees who currently work at multiple locations that the company leases in the St. Louis area. Pfizer expects to hire an additional 80 employees over the coming years to support research at the site. Construction is expected to be complete by mid-2019.

Kitchen 21 – Set to Open May 21

 

Originally completed in 1924, the nautical themed Childs Restaurants is a New York City designated landmark on the Coney Island Boardwalk. The building has been restored to house Kitchen 21 – a new, five-in-one restaurant designed by EwingCole. Read More Here and Here.

 

EwingCole Designs Renovations to The Pavilion at Villanova University

 

 

 

 

 

EwingCole has designed a $60,000,000 renovation to The Pavilion, home of the 2016 NCAA men’s basketball champion Villanova Wildcats. EwingCole’s renderings of the new facility were revealed on March 8, at a ceremony held in conjunction with the Big East Basketball Tournament in New York City. The renovated Pavilion is expected to begin in June 2017 and be completed for the start of the 2018-19 basketball season.

“It was important to Villanova that we celebrate the uniqueness of The Pavilion while creating an unmatched Division I basketball experience for the players and the fans,” said Bill McCullough, AIA, principal of EwingCole’s sports practice. “We worked closely with administrators, coaches, staff, and alumni to create a project that reimagines the arena into a world-class, basketball-centric facility all about fan experience.”

Upgrades to the two-story, 6,500-seat structure include a relocated main entrance, a completed concourse, and increased quality of premium offerings, seating, and amenities.  These modernizations will not only support Villanova’s men’s and women’s basketball programs but other University-wide events and programs.

According to McCullough, Villanova targeted several specific items for improvement. “Ultimately our goal was to significantly enhance fan experience, player and performer experience, and operational efficiency within the Pavilion.”

The design of The Pavilion includes relocating the main entrance. This new entry sequence, at the southwest corner of the building, will allow the majority of patrons to enter the building closer to where they arrive and take advantage of the large area south of the main arena.

EwingCole & Perkins Eastman Co-Publish New White Paper Examining The Benefits & Challenges Of Design Research

EwingCole and Perkins Eastman are pleased to announce the release of their new joint white paper “Where Are We Now?: Elevating Design Practice through Design Research,” co-authored by Emily Chmielewski, EDAC, Associate and Senior Design Researcher at Perkins Eastman, and Nicholas Watkins, Ph.D., Director of Research at EwingCole. The paper takes an in-depth look at the current state of the design research field, dissects the many challenges researchers face, and contemplates broad solutions for advancing the practice of design research for the overall betterment of the architectural design field.

In March 2016, the Perkins Eastman and EwingCole research teams, led by Chmielewski and Watkins, developed and instituted a comprehensive online survey of 29 questions, in partnership with the Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA). The survey was available online for three weeks and was completed by a mix of students, educators, designers, and design research professionals. The results of that survey were then presented at the 47th Annual EDRA Conference (EDRA47), in Raleigh, NC.

The survey’s questions focused on such topics as: Defining one’s role; the value and credibility of design research; research methods, knowledge sharing, and sustainability of design research in practice, among others. “Many of our respondents wear multiple hats,” says Chmielewski. “An educator will also participate in research practice, for example, and many others do not have one area of specialization. Most are conducting research in multiple sectors and on varied project types.”

Live Nation Opens New Fillmore Philadelphia

EwingCole-interior designed Fillmore Philadelphia becomes Live Nation’s newest landmark entertainment venue

PHILADELPHIA (Oct 2015) – Live Nation opens new Fillmore, interior designed by EwingCole, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Located in the heart of Philadelphia’s trendy Fishtown neighborhood, the former Ajax Metal Company building (circa 1893) has been creatively adapted into a 40,000 s.f., state-of-the-art, live music venue expected to provide cultural and history-making events.

“The distinctive features of Philadelphia, the raw intensity of the existing factory, and the Fillmore’s legacy inspired the interior design, resulting in a one-of-a-kind contemporary entertainment destination,” said Craig Schmitt, RA, principal at EwingCole.

The two-story atrium features a recreation of Robert Indiana’s famous LOVE sculpture where the O is swapped for an I. Expected to create a great photo-op for guests, this new LIVE sculpture, reflects the founding ideals of Fillmore founder and legendary music promoter, Bill Graham, who died in 1991.

Beyond the atrium is Ajax Hall, which is open to both ticketed and non-ticketed guests. This unique space provides a central location for non-concert events and activities and also functions as the connector to the 2,500-capacity main event space.
